As Tafties become swept up in homework, major assessments, and that essay that was totally due yesterday, we are engulfed in dorm setups for the year. Whether it be the Congdon quad or a CPT triple that has somehow managed to fit three beds and a couch, students have proved that dorm decorating should be a varsity sport of its own. These dorms aren’t just a couple of walls and a twin XL bed; they are an asylum from the embarrassment of facing your ex-talking stage in the dining hall, having awkward conversations (or lack thereof) at sit-down dinner, and the homework you’ve been putting off all day. This fall, we’ve set out to investigate the hottest dorms of the year — from hidden gems in Voge to the “Penthouse” on CPT4. If you’re in need of dorm inspiration, look no further. Here are the highlights — the rooms everyone will be talking about until we have all vanished into the refuge of summer on move-out day.
First, we have the famous Congdon Quad. All the way on the third floor, you’ll find the home of Sophie Stimpson ‘28, MK Lindsey ‘28, Lucy Atwood ‘28, and Ashton Gibbins ‘28, where you’ll feel like you’re stepping into a Pinterest board. The walk-in closets? Bigger than most freshman dorms. With linen headboards, matching duvets, and color-coordinated wall prints, their room hardly feels like a dorm at all. Who wouldn’t want a room for a year-long sleepover with four best friends?
Of course, we needed to include the infamous triple on CPT4. Here resides Evan Freeman, Joe McBride, and Logan Reed, three boys who apparently require little to no square footage of floor space. Walking in feels less like entering a dorm room and more like getting hit with a wave of testosterone straight from a frat house basement. The LED lights are permanently flickering like a rave, and the TV setup manages to take up just as much space as a bed. Add in the coffee table, a sacred relic passed down through generations of “Penthouse” residents, and you get the energy of a museum exhibit rather than a living space. Touch it at your own risk.
Finally, a break from the chaos, you’ll find Alex Werner and Annie Wagner’s conjoining singles in Voge. What would normally be two singles connected by a door has been transformed into a carefully engineered suite. Annie and Alex have beaten the system by moving both beds into one room, creating the perfect sleep-study dynamic. Haven’t you heard? Using the bedroom only for sleep is one of the best ways to improve your sleep quality. And the best part: that leaves the other room wide open for studying, hanging out, getting ready… or all three at once.
With their desks side by side, these friends created what looks like the Love Island glam room. And it doesn’t stop there; the rest of the room is fully furnished with a couch, bean bag, and storage ottoman. Thoughtfully decorated to the nines in baby pink florals, velvets, and bows, it will likely make you wonder, “Why didn’t I think of that?”
In our search to find the most legendary dorms around campus, we discovered one thing in common: our rooms are a sanctuary where we can slow down from everything else going on.
