A dynasty has been born. The Los Angeles Dodgers go down in history as the eighth MLB franchise to win consecutive World Series titles. The Dodgers dominated with their starting pitching and offense, but their bullpen remained shaky. Still, they plowed past the Cincinnati Reds 2-0, vanquished the aging Philadelphia Phillies 3-1, and swept the Milwaukee Brewers, the team with the best record in baseball, 4-0 in the NLCS.
At the start of the MLB season, the Blue Jays were overlooked as a mediocre team, with the New York Yankees expected to win the division. The Blue Jays, however, displayed their firepower throughout the season, finishing first in the American League East Division and surging into the playoffs with first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and rookie pitcher Trey Yesavage. After a first-round bye, the Blue Jays upset the New York Yankees and defeated the Seattle Mariners to advance to the World Series.
The Dodgers stormed into Game One of the World Series, chins high, determined to show their proficiency and reassert their dominance in baseball as the world’s greatest team. The Dodgers struck again and again. The world watched, however, as the Blue Jays fought back and methodically dissected the Dodgers’ ace, Blake Snell, with a collection of home runs from Daulton Varsho and Addison Barger. They continued their tireless bombardment as Toronto’s batters reawakened with a new sense of purpose. Shohei Ohtani tried to resuscitate the Dodgers in the seventh inning with his two-run home run, but it was too late. As Mookie Betts struck out to end the game, Toronto had bludgeoned its way to a victory, 11-4. The Blue Jays had silenced all doubt with their dominant offense; they had defied all expectations and proved that the Dodgers could bleed.
Los Angeles was hungry for retribution after being humiliated in game one; they regained control with Will Smith’s RBI single. Toronto responded in the third to tie the game, but the Dodgers were too strong to handle. They took advantage of a tired Kevin Gausman and sent two home runs to left field in the seventh inning. They continued to punish the Blue Jays, as Yamamoto’s performance was unparalleled, surrendering one run while striking out eight over nine innings. The Dodgers solidified their control in the eighth with an extra two runs and won game two after Varsho popped out to third.
The Dodgers and Blue Jays entered World Series history after battling for over 6 hours in a game that lasted 18 innings in game three. Taking the lead early, the Dodgers scored two runs with a combination of home runs, but the all-star pitcher Tyler Glasnow faltered in the fourth, surrendering four runs. Ohtani continued to showcase his talent with an RBI double to shorten the Blue Jays’ lead and tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with his second home run of the night. On the 609th pitch in game three, Freddie Freeman belted a 406-foot home run to center field, ending the game with a walk-off home run in typical Dodgers fashion. As the Dodgers’ benches and bullpen cleared to celebrate Freeman’s clutch hit, the Blue Jays hung their heads low and left to tend to their wounds.
Entering game four after exhausting nine pitchers in game three, the Blue Jays were desperate for a victory. Taking the mound for the Blue Jays was previous Cy Young winner Shane Bieber, who surrendered one run in the bottom of the second inning after Enrique Hernandez’s sacrifice fly ball scored Max Muncy. The Blue Jays retaliated in the top of the third after a dramatic 395 ft home run to left center, stealing the lead 2-1. The Blue Jays continued their onslaught and notched four runs on Ohtani, the dual-hitting and pitching phenom. After capitalizing on a weakened bullpen, they expanded the lead with two runs against Anthony Banda. The Dodgers countered in the bottom of the ninth but fell short 6-2. The Blue Jays tied the series; with the momentum behind them, they hoped to ride the phenomenal rookie Trey Yesavage in Game 5 to take the series lead.
With the series knotted at 2-2, Game 5 would deliver one team the lead. Toronto fans were electric at Rogers Center as back-to-back home runs gave the Blue Jays the lead. The Dodgers tried to endure, but only E. Hernandez produced any runs. Yesavage reigned untouchable for the rest of the game, striking out 12 batters. This spectacular performance thrust the Blue Jays into a dominant position, and they continued to score into the eighth inning, coasting to a 6-1 win in game five.
Facing elimination, the Dodgers turned to Yamamoto for one more miracle, hopefully. The Dodgers played with a newfound sense of necessity and urgency and scored in the third inning with W. Smith’s RBI double and M. Betts’s RBI single. After brief resistance from George Springer in the third inning to shrink the lead to 3-1, Yamamoto continued his extermination of the Blue Jays lineup, striking out six and keeping the Blue Jays at bay through the sixth inning. Refusing to accept defeat, the Blue Jays surged in the ninth with runners on second and third but failed to produce any runs. Yamamoto had made a statement for the Dodgers: they were far from defeated.
The World Series was now at a crossroads; the series was tied going into the final, pivotal game. Bo Bichette brought the Blue Jays to the lead in the first with a three-run home run, but the Dodgers’ Teoscar Hernandez’s sacrifice fly scored one in the fourth. Down to their final two outs in the top of the 9th and losing by one, every fan was on the edge of their seat until Miguel Rojas’s bat sent a crack through the air. With an exhilarating home run, the game was tied. Another hero emerged for the Dodgers in the 11th inning: catcher Will Smith launched a home run to give the Dodgers a 5-4 lead. The Toronto crowd was silent. Trying for a rally in the bottom of the 11th, the Blue Jays tried to use every modicum of skill, but their strength had faded. In a poetic ending, Yamamoto ended the game for the Dodgers, and they celebrated, arms thrown into the air, as winners of the World Series. The Dodgers remained; they had overcome adversity and remained triumphant. Standing victorious, they now eye the opportunity to win a third consecutive World Series in 2026; the only question that remains is who will challenge them?
